Welcome to my suburban garden blog!!

I’ve always enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. When I was younger my parents tried to do the hippy commune thing and bought a piece of property up in the mountains of southeast West Virginia. We essentially lived off the land for several years. We still own the property and while I don’t get back there as much as I’d like to, I’ve tried to do my best to bring some of that to my suburban home in Jacksonville and get my daughters interested in the whole idea of working the land..Not that I expect them to become naturalists or homesteaders, but I’d like to impart to them the same love for nature that I have.

To be clear, I’m not one of those people who thinks society is going to collapse tomorrow, and my political leanings certainly don’t match the typical profile of the home gardener, composter and rain barrel type, but that’s what make me unique. I like the idea of being able to grow some of my own food and fruit and even save money harvesting rain. Who wouldn’t? All it takes is a little work.

Anyway, I’m hoping to share some of my experiences with home gardening, what’s worked for me and what hasn’t. Other sites I find useful and anything else I find interesting. Thanks for reading.
